Artemis Intelligent Power, owned by Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe, performs research development and technology licensing associated with the development and application of Digital Displacement® hydraulic technology. In the transport sector, our applications include energy-saving series and parallel drivelines for cars, buses and commercial vehicles in which we work closely with leading global companies including non-exclusive licensee Bosch-Rexroth. In independently conducted tests, the Artemis series-hybrid BMW 530i saloon car achieved thirty percent fuel and carbon savings on the European Driving Cycle (fifty percent in urban driving). Our brake energy recovery system for city buses has demonstrated the potential for well over 20 percent fuel savings. Other Artemis Digital Displacement® automotive applications include active suspension, accessory drives and fan cooling systems.
Artemis Digital Displacement® technology was created in order to overcome some of the inherent limitations of conventional variable-displacement high-pressure oil-hydraulic machines – low part-load efficiency, poor controllability and harsh noise. The key concept is to create displacement variability through the unloading of unwanted cylinders by computer driven solenoid valves. Such ‘idling’ cylinders contribute consume very little parasitic energy and are available for pressurisation with unprecedented immediacy.
